“ Swimming in the Ocean Vs. Swimming in a Pool “

Presenter:  Randy Thomas, Director of Architectural Dimming & Integrated Systems Legrand Lighting Controls

Speaker Bio

When:   2pm - Wednesday, October 5, 2016

Where:  Room 305

Abstract (Synopsis):

Any professional involved with design or construction/building projects (builder, distributor; contractor; designer; specifier; A/V Professional; facility manager) who is new to lighting control and wishes to understand:
• An overview of available commercial controls.
• How controls can benefit a variety of applications.
• How to identify a control solutions based on the application.

This seminar begins with a discussion on the current building industry design and construction processes, limitations, and issues which hinder its success. Attendees will be able to define IBT and how it can help projects run smoothly as technology changes. Finally, attendees will review case studies in which Lighting Controls and CSI Division 25 implementation have acted as a catalyst to successful IBT integration.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify opportunities within a project and recommend a lighting control system that improves energy-efficiency, increases the flexibility of the space, and promotes occupant productivity, comfort, and convenience.
  • Specify control requirements based on the type of fixtures, with emphasis on discerning between low-voltage fixtures, dimmable fluorescent ballasts, and dimmable LEDs.
  • Recommend control solutions based on the space size and application. Products discussed include dimmers, sensors, wireless devices, centralized architectural systems, distributed modular systems, digitally addressable networks, and WattStopper DLM & LCAP products
  • Discuss the current building industry design and construction processes, limitations, and issues that hinder its overall success.
  • Define Integrated Building Technology (IBT) and how it relates to the changing design and construction process.
  • Explain how Integrated Building Technology can help projects run smoothly as technology becomes more complicated.
  • Review Case Studies in which Lighting Controls have acted as a catalyst to a successful IBT integration
  • Discuss Current Projects that might benefit for these applications

Length of Seminar:

One hour, with approximately 45 minutes of presentation and 15 minutes for questions
