Abstract (Synopsis):

This course provides a practical approach to the concepts, strategies, and technologies used in today’s lighting control systems. It provides basic vocabulary and conceptual approaches and discusses how different lighting systems respond to controls.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this program, you will be able to:

  • Apply key principles and concepts of lighting controls. 
  • Develop lighting control strategies based on project objectives.
  • Compare dimming operation and performance of various lighting technologies.
  • Identify appropriate technologies to implement different controls strategies.

One hour, with approximately 45 minutes of presentation and 15 minutes for questions

Jim Phelan is the Specification Sales LEED and Controls Specialist for Philips Lighting North America in the Eastern and Mid-West United States.

Jim has his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. Jim is a ten-year Navy Veteran, he served on The USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) as an Electronics Technician. He went on to become a Military Naval Instructor at The Navy’s Advanced Electronics School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Since 1999, Jim’s career focus has been on controls while working with Lutron Electronics, Inc. and Philips Lighting North America since 2010.

Jim was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He resides there still, with his wife of 20 years (Pam) and their 3 wonderful children.
